What is a Lumen Print?
Lumen prints are made using a camera-less photographic technique. The artists take plant materials from nature. They arrange these in an aesthetic design on a sheet of photo sensitive paper. The paper with the plant materials on it is then exposed to sunlight for many hours. Then the plant materials are removed from the paper leaving an image on the surface. This is called a lumen print.
The lumen print image begins to disappear quickly, so using a camera the artists capture the image before it fades. Transferred to a computer, the image is cropped and has some minor editing. It is then printed for display. Editions of the print are made using archival inks on high quality fine art papers and other surfaces.
