In her new series of paintings, Tami Galili Ellis returns to her signature use of luscious colours; deep red, blue and yellow form magical blends, marked by dark lines.  Single figures, enmeshed in their backgrounds, re-appear.  Some are standing, others reclining; they struggle to be seen. While all paintings are infused with eroticism a few are overtly sexual. Pushing the edges of figuration and abstraction ever further,  Galili Ellis uses paint to stir up a primal sexual impulse that appears to seize the female figures and permeate them with its fierce energy.

Merged with sensuous painting surfaces, the figures evoke bliss, but their joy is contrasted with vulnerability, their sweetness with aggression, their energy with decay.  Exposed is the result of an intuitive, expressive painting process; the deeply emotional paintings show sexuality as a fundamental life force, with all its cultural contradictions.
