"Per • i • dot" 40 x 48 oils, oil sticks and charcoal on canvas, 2019
Artist Statement
I work with oil paints, oil sticks and charcoals for their fluency in softness
and strength. The oils and charcoals readiness to be manipulated, pushed
and transformed both by their texture and form, make it the ideal medium
for me to explore the theme of contrasts and to further my interests in the
duality of opposites. As an Israel immigrant to Canada, my art is constantly
shaped by opposing poles. I attribute much of my inspiration to the
geographic, cultural and political contradictions within each country. My
practice is to my layers of familiar dialects linking my past to my present
through juxtaposed ideas about empty verses full, darkness against light,
life holding death...
